  • Question: What are the in vivo cortical distributions and the relationships between tau and amyloid-? deposits in elderly, cognitively normal individuals? Findings: In this cross-sectional study of 88 elderly persons, tau and amyloid-? deposits in the elderly brain displayed well-defined hierarchical cortical relationships as well as overlaps between the principal accumulations of both abnormalities in the heteromodal association regions. Meaning: These findings represent systematic, large-scale mechanisms of early pathologic changes of Alzheimer disease in the elderly human brain.
