  • BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: To describe the development of an mHealth app that includes various instruments for the assessment of individuals with stroke. METHODS: The app was developed following the report by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality as follows: (1) Software content analysis; (2) Preliminary layout; (3) Development of the prototype; (4) Testing the prototype; and (5) Finalization. All stages were conducted by two researchers with at least 12 years of experience in neurorehabilitation. Six researchers participated on an expert committee at stages 1 and 2, and 10 physiotherapists participated at stages 2 and 4. RESULTS: The app was named AVALIE AVC (EVALUATE CVA). After the five stages, which included a pilot test with 10 physiotherapists, the app was finalized including 46 instruments, organized into 26 categories, with adequate measurement properties for individuals with stroke. For each instrument, there are descriptions and indications, materials/time needed for application, a copy of the questionnaires/scales or illustrative pictures/videos of the tests, and the score calculation and interpretation. DISCUSSION: The AVALIE AVC was developed according to standardized protocols, is available on both Android and iOS platforms, and is free of charge, containing 46 instruments for the assessment of health, functionality, and quality of life in stroke individuals. This application has the potential to assist healthcare professionals in assessing patients after a stroke by providing the necessary information quickly and easily.
