The liquid desiccant-assisted forced convection indirect type solar drying system has emerged as a promising alternative to dry the foodstuff in a lesser drying time while preserving food quality. The review article focuses on study of influence of distinct input parameters on performance indices of key components (drying chamber, solar air heater, liquid desiccant dehumidifier, and liquid desiccant regenerator) of system using recent state-of-the-art literature review and summarized in the form of tables. In drying chamber, the drying time reduces with increase in air inlet temperature and air inlet mass flow rate, while energy consumption reduces with rise in air inlet temperature and decrease in air mass flow rate. In double-pass solar air heater, thermal efficiency increases with increase in air mass flow rate; however, pumping power increases exponentially to overcome friction loss at higher mass flow rates, which reduces the thermo-hydraulic efficiency. The convective heat transfer coefficient increases and friction factor reduces with increase in Reynolds numbers. In dehumidifier, the moisture removal rate increases with an increase in inlet air humidity ratio, air and liquid inlet mass flow rate, liquid desiccant inlet concentration, and reduction in air and liquid desiccant inlet temperature. In regenerator, the moisture removal rate increases with an increase in air and liquid desiccant inlet temperature, air and liquid desiccant mass flow rate, and a reduction in air inlet humidity ratio and liquid desiccant inlet concentration.
