JNK/SAPKs have since been characterized to be involved in proliferation, apoptosis, motility, metabolism and DNA repair. Dysregulated JNK signaling is now believed to contribute to many diseases involving neurodegeneration, chronic inflammation, birth defects, cancer and ischemia/reperfusion injury.
