lüll Id proteins in cell cycle control and cellular senescence Zebedee Z; Hara EOncogene 2001[Dec]; 20 (58): 8317-25The Id family of helix-loop-helix (HLH) proteins are thought to affect the balance between cell growth and differentiation by negatively regulating the function of basic-helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors. Although it has been suggested for some time that Id is involved in cell cycle regulation, little is known about the molecular mechanism of this control. Recent studies, however, have revealed that Id binds to important cell cycle regulatory proteins other than bHLH proteins. Two such proteins, pRB (retinoblastoma tumour suppressor protein) family proteins and Ets-family transcription factors are known to play key roles in cell cycle regulation, transformation and tumour suppression. Through the characterization of these pathways we will begin to understand the mechanisms by which Id controls normal and abnormal cell cycle progression.|*Multigene Family[MESH]|*Neoplasm Proteins[MESH]|*Repressor Proteins[MESH]|Animals[MESH]|Cell Cycle Proteins/physiology[MESH]|Cell Cycle/genetics/*physiology[MESH]|Cell Division[MESH]|Cell Transformation, Neoplastic/genetics[MESH]|Cellular Senescence/genetics/*physiology[MESH]|Cyclin-Dependent Kinase Inhibitor p16/physiology[MESH]|DNA Replication[MESH]|DNA-Binding Proteins/chemistry/genetics/*physiology[MESH]|Dimerization[MESH]|Fibroblasts/cytology[MESH]|Gene Expression Regulation, Developmental[MESH]|Genes, Tumor Suppressor[MESH]|Genes, p16[MESH]|Genes, ras[MESH]|Helix-Loop-Helix Motifs[MESH]|Humans[MESH]|Inhibitor of Differentiation Protein 1[MESH]|Inhibitor of Differentiation Protein 2[MESH]|Inhibitor of Differentiation Proteins[MESH]|MAP Kinase Signaling System[MESH]|Mammals/genetics/physiology[MESH]|Mice[MESH]|Models, Biological[MESH]|Retinoblastoma Protein/physiology[MESH]|Transcription Factors/chemistry/genetics/*physiology[MESH]|Transcription, Genetic[MESH] |
